Patrick Kana
Patrick Kana is a furniture maker and educator based out of Boston, MA. Patrick is currently the Associate Director of Makerspaces and Lecturer for the College of Arts, Media and Design at Northeastern University and owner of Kana Studios. Patrick began apprenticing at age 16 for Peter Dudley, former student and employee of Wendell Castle, and continued studying under other master craftsmen through 2013. Patrick went on to receive his MFA in Furniture Design in 2015 from the School for American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Formal studies in architecture, sculpture and furniture design both in the US and in Copenhagen, Denmark round out his mixed aesthetic and technical experience. He exhibits actively across the US, and is represented by three galleries in New England and New Mexico. In 2021, he was recognized as a finalist for Maker of the Year by Australian Wood Review Magazine in the World category. With a passion for education and mentorship, he spends his weeks mentoring students and teaching fabrication each semester at Northeastern while creating speculative and commission work for galleries and clients.
