Class description
A travisher is a tool most commonly used in the process of carving the seat on a windsor chair. It can also be used in other ways for hollowing out any large bowl form or for applying texture to furniture pieces. In this workshop, students will walk through the process of fabricating a travisher from start to finish using a prefabricated blade and a brass sole. We will discuss the crucial elements to a successful travisher and learn how to apply them while making a functional tool that students can use on future projects.
Students should bring:
- Double/single cut handy file.
- Medium and fine rasp for shaping - half round would be ideal. I recommend an auriou rasp or dragon rasp because they taper to a point.
- Flat iwasaki file with a medium to fine cut and safe edges.
