Class description

This introduction to wood turning is for the newcomer to wood turning, whether an absolute novice or relative beginner. The class will include safety, PPE, materials, equipment and tools, tool sharpening, work mounting, turning fundamentals, speeds and feeds, sanding and finishing, and more. While the hands-on turning portions of the class will be performed on desktop mini-lathes, the emphasis will be on the skills the woodworker will use on full-sized equipment making components for woodworking projects.

Students should wear closed-toed footwear, short-sleeved shirts, or tightly-cuffed (elastic banded) upper garments, comfortable wear, and any special eyewear needed for shop work. Those owning woodturning tools may bring them to class for evaluation and potential use for sharpening practice. Class tools will be provided. Face shields and dust masks will be available as needed or desired.
